Stop being anti-social in your media

All the cool kids art Tweeting and Myspacing and Facebooking and Blogging.

This PBS piece is pointing out that social media doesn't have to be a time suck.

A blog can be better than a business card.

Tweeting can get your coverage covered ... with, ummm, eyeballs, tweets and comments....yeah!

Facebook can be the new networking mixer.

So, open up on-line....but watch out that you don't get, eh, "too open."

  1. What is with this "25 things" on Facebook?! I think it's the oddest phenomenon.

But now something strange is happening. I will be meandering along and WHAM. I think of something perfect for a "25 things" post. These random thoughts are collecting. One day I'm afraid I'll give in...

The notion of social media is tricky. Where do you draw the line? How much is too much? To be honest, a "25 things" post could, in fact, be helpful professionally. Let me explain:

After carefully crafting your "candid" 25 things, you write a post. In this post you tag a variety of people, including some of your professional contacts. These folks will at first think you're nuts. But if they do read it, your posts may in fact go into their subconscious. And they'll remember you for specific things. Like personality traits that you "candidly" discuss. When, in actuality, you planted said traits to go into their subconscious.

    Ole.
